Field Medical Treatment Course

Training code

In the FMTC-1 Field Medical Treatment Course the participants gets tested on their ability to effectively diagnose and treat their patients, use the medical gear available to them, prioritize who to treat first, and what a medics ROE is. Instructors will go through the required gear with the participant, and then proceed down the course checklist, making sure participants are familiar with all aspects of field medical course.

Qualification prerequisites

To pass this checklisted training you can only fail to demonstrate one minor qualification. Failing to demonstrate any of the 4 major proficiencies will result in a failure. The examiner will explain why you failed these points and what you can do to pass them. The test can be retaken after a period of seven days. Only the points that led to the previous failure will be reassessed.

  • (MAJ) Know how to diagnose the patient
    • Understand blood pressure values and their importance
    • Understand heart rate values and their importance
    • Understand when and why a person will enter cardiac arrest
  • (MAJ) Know how to treat the patient
    • Know where and when to treat a patient.
    • Know how to recognise weather or not a patient is responsive, and how to react.
    • Know how to stop bleeding effectively, and how to properly prioritise treatment depending on location and types of wounds.
    • Know how and when to treat a cardiac arrest.
    • Know how to restore a patients blood volume
    • Know how to manage a patients pain levels.
    • Know what to do if the patient is still unresponsive after initial treatment.
    • Know what to do if the patient is limping or has excessive weapon sway.
  • (MAJ) Understand and know how to use ALL the medical equipment available.
    • Know why you should keep all medical gear in the backpack
    • Know what other non-medical gear is beneficial to a field medic.
  • (MINOR) Know how to prioritise different patients, based on COC and chance of survival.
  • (MINOR) Know the "dynamic" ROE for medics.
