Operation Thunder Valley

IGT

DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY

HEADQUARTERS INDEPENDENT GAMING GROUP

INDEPENDENT GAMING TACTICS COMMAND

Background

American forces are beginning to pull out of the area to the north and boots on the ground are at low levels. Most are on duties as to pack up equipment ready for when the remainder of our forces are pulled back to the nearby airfield and we finally get to depart this dust bowl. Tensions are rising as the insurgents in the area are noticing our weakening positions and are becoming more confident in harassing us. IEDs are still quite a threat and we often find ourselves on patrols clearing the roads for locals.

Objectives

  • Clear IEDs
  • Investigate disturbances
  • Pack up the base and leave the AO
  • Any other tasking that comes up from Crossroads

Message

Our forces are held up in the isolated Camp Kinno, the nearby towns of Spetzyahir, Lolosalam and Kenykmheni and the roads between are frequent victims to IEDs along the roads as it is our only route out from the camp. We are to take our weekly routine patrol of the road to search for any IED threats and walk up to the town of Kenykmheni. It has been a quiet last few weeks so not much resistance is expected. We will most likely pass only a couple of IEDs to dispose of this time. But still, the job must be done for the safety of the civilians in the towns. The current weather has turned to thunder storms as the wet season has come early, communications are scarce at best of times with command up at Prozakhar Airbase, because of the mountainous terrain. But with the poor weather conditions also having an effect, communications are down most the time so we only have what we do now at the camp. This is not much, as most vehicles have been lifted back to HQ for dismantling and packing.

This morning, a local with limited English came to the camp and mentioned something happening in Kenykmheni, we couldn’t clear up what exactly what he said, as the damn translator is back at the airbase for getting some shrapnel in his leg, but none the less we may as well check it out once we complete the patrol. Command has requested that the birds stay on the ground unless necessary as they’ll be needed intact to transport the remainder of our kit and ourselves to the Airfield once the storm has passed. We should be fine as it's a simple route. The pilot can relax at the base in peace until we return.

Objectives

Primary

  • Patrol along the road from the Camp entrance through the towns of Spetzuahir and Lolosalam down towards Kenykmheni.

    • Clear the route of any IEDs we find

Secondary

  • Investigate possible disturbances in the towns, Kenykmheni especially.

Friendly assets

  • UH-60M MEV ESSS

  • AH-6M-M Little Bird

Enemy assets

  • Insurgent Forces, unknown numbers

Message

Well that was a tough strike at us yesterday from the locals. Their ambush at Lolosalam stopped us in our tracks. Luckily without any casualties we were able to hold our own. After reporting the incident to command we were told to finish what we started today. We were lucky to get that through in the calm of the night before the storm kicked up for another round this morning.

A team were set to put together some light buggies for us to use overnight and they worked their asses off. These vehicles aren’t the most protective but they’re damn fast and nimble. We’ve been given the use of any of these that we need. We are to push up the road to Kenykmheni where we can investigate the problems and finish clearing the IEDs on the road. Once the road is clear we can push to and secure the town of Kenykmheni from the local insurgents.

Objectives

Primary

  • Patrol along the road from Lolosalam down towards Kenykmheni.

    • Clear the route of any IEDs we find

  • Investigate possible disturbances in Kenykmheni.

    • Capture any of the Ring leaders responsible for the attacks

Secondary

  • Ensure no civilians get hurt by the IEDs you find
  • Avoid damaging the local's buildings.

Friendly Assets

  • UH-60M MEV ESSS

  • AH-6M-M Little Bird

  • 6x light buggies

  • Light Humvee

Possible Enemy Assets

  • Infantry

  • UAZs

Message

The road is finally clear and so is the storm. Command has been in touch and the last steps to our departure have been planned. We’re heading home boys!! The weather has cleared up today and the birds can fly again, meaning we can finish lifting what we can to base before leaving ourselves. We're to be patrolling the area around the camp while the bird flies logistics. We should also be ready for any points at which we could be re-tasked by command. Patrols are to be organised around the camp are in the SL's hands. Something is happening for these large numbers of insurgents to come out and attack, the scale of it is still unknown.

Objectives

Primary

  • Stand Guard at the FOB, and patrol the local area

  • Aid in the transport of equipment

  • Work on any tasks assigned by Crossroads

Secondary

  • Ensure no civilians are injured

  • Don’t break our bird as it will take time until another will be free to help

Friendly assets

  • UH-60M MEV ESSS

  • AH-6M-M Little Bird

  • 3x light buggies

  • Light Humvee

Enemy assets

Message

Our presence in the region is coming to an end and after saving the lives of the UN soldiers and the Journalist we are tasked with one last thing before we get a good long ride on a big bird back home. UAVs have detected a large increase in movement in and around the mosque in Mini Al Malak. We believe this location to be where the insurgents are getting their supplies and weapons from. They seem unusually well armed and we need to destroy the cashe before the supplies can be distributed and used.

We are to be dropped into the area at night and push into the two towns. Under the cover of night we should be able to catch them unaware. Once in the towns we are to clear them of hostile forces and breach and clear buildings to find any weapons hidden in the towns or within the mosque itself. Any cashes found should be destroyed. We are looking into where these weapons are being supplied from and hopefully we can find the source.

Objectives

Primary

  • Assault the towns of Mini Al Malak and Lotohafaz
    • Destroy Weapon Cashes in the towns Mini Al Malak and Lotohafaz
    • Clear and Search the Mosque Complex in Mini Al Malak
    • Eliminate all insurgents

Secondary

  • Avoid damage to buildings unless cashes are found inside.

Friendly assets

  • 1x Chinook
  • 1x Medivac Blackhawk
  • 2x F-181 Blackwasp
  • 1x Humvee
  • 3x Buggie

Enemy assets

  • Infantry
  • Statics
  • APCs
  • Gun trucks
  • UAZs
